Valentine’s Day ’15 + Instagram Favs

PHOTO via // DESIGN by Escape to Vava’u

Good evening, Valentines! I hope that everyone has eaten lots of heart-shaped things and smiled at least a few times today – Darien and I cooked each other 3 course meals, all having to follow a ‘Surf ‘n Turf‘ theme (we’re so Iron Chef). Six plates each later, blogging is about the most stimulating thing I can do.

I am so excited to be finally releasing this week’s Instagram Favs! This is something that I have always wanted to do within a blog, but had never reached out to brands or other bloggers. There is a promise that I like to go by while using Instagram, and it is as follows:

OUR PROMISE is to ONLY promote brands/users that we genuinely support and like! We believe that this keeps us personal and trustworthy – who doesn’t like that in a blogger?! Each of you that we follow: WE GENUINELY APPRECIATE YOU AND YOUR HARD WORK. We support you and what you stand for! Those following us: know that we are true to the end! We promote healthy, natural, sustainable living – without positivity and reliability, none of this would work!

I see a lot of artificial-following and excessive-promotion going on, and I feel that it’s a dishonest and annoying way for a blogger to operate their brand. Whether you do it to get more followers, to get that one free thing, or to try to get X amount of likes – whatever the reason, we choose not to partake and to instead gain genuine, long-term followers who are interested in what we speak about. In my opinion, this is a key to truly getting our message out there and being a trustworthy brand. But how? We do this by bringing out the beauty in others and spotlighting their talents!

From there, weekly Instagram Favs was created to do just that!

Also, I am a huge fan of natural/organic beauty care on Instagram; there’s a huge selection of brands and products, and buying from ANY of them will further help support small businesses, be more eco-friendly, and in the end – looking out for your health by having the healthiest options. The Instagram Favs will include these, as well as any great handmade items, crystals, tarot, cannabis-related, aromatherapy, yoga-related, etc. Overall, I find this as a great way to spotlight others, network, and gain experience!

I sincerely hope that you enjoy this as much as I do – want to be featured or know of a brand/blogger you’d like to recommend? Comment below! Let’s get started then, shall we?!

For the second time ever, here is our top 5 favorites Instagram users this week:

plant powered self care goods inquiries:

Extremely natural beauty care products with killer package design- what is there not to love? The owners/operators of this company, Franziska & Betti, are extremely sweet and helpful. When messaging them earlier this week, they shared a mutual excitement about our travels and shared that we were the same age! It really makes me proud to see others of my age group succeeding and chasing their dreams, and doing it with such flair! I am so glad to now call them friends, and to see what we do together in the near future. Check out their beautiful facial mask, facial oil, and mist toner options!

I tend to choose brands that have sleek, modern packaging – they fit the bill and beyond! I could see their products getting picked up by extremely exclusive international spas in the near future. “Onyx Exchange

Hand-crafted home & body products, made in Indianapolis, Indiana. Wholesale available.

Warning: I am a bit bias with this brand, due to the fact that they are from my home state! Nevertheless, they are one of my all-time favorites. They carry a variety of products, such as wine bottle candles, tea lights, wax warmer melts, essential oil candles, bar soap, body lotion, bath salt, and more! The product packaging is simple and monochromatic, and all of their Instagram posts are on point. Are you a local? Follow them to see when they are setting up shop near you! Not so close? Browse their online store anytime!

save the mermaids

About @save_the_mermaids on Instagram:

501c3 non-profit organization made of Mermaids fighting to save the sea from human pollution. Send us a wave on Facebook

If you haven’t read my last post, read it here – the topic of ocean pollution was confronted and discussed. If you have read it, you know that the ocean is vital to our existence and it is being choked by man-made contagions. How do we fix this? There are many people working to ban single-use plastics, stop off-shore drilling, help convert to clean energy to prevent oil spills and massive electricity usage, and more. One of my favorites? Absolutely!

Save the Mermaids is a non-profit organization that educates communities about ocean health and protection, and promotes beach cleanups and giving back to mother nature! They even have a pledge that you can take here:

This organization is a group of mermaids (ocean protectors/ambassadors/children of the sea) who act as ambassadors in their area, raising awareness and doing their part to repair the damage caused by humans. I am extremely interested in doing this in Alaska & Tonga – raising awareness about ocean pollution and hosting beach clean ups are already goals that I have for the near future after the move, and it would be lovely to do it as a Mermaid Ambassador! Support this amazing cause, and together we can help clean up our mess –

soma water

About @somawater on Instagram:

Beautifully innovative, sustainable water filters. #DrinkSoma

I’ve never read a more simple, accurate bio on Instagram. Congrats, Soma! You are officially the number one choice of water filter systems for Escape to Vava’u! Clean water is a huge issue today globally, and what better way to combat this while not having to compromise your modern taste? Not only are they sleek and stylish, but they also support the same causes we do! They have four pillars for social responsibility: ending the global water crisis, reducing global impact, green products and packaging, and responsible supply chain partners.

“We want our customers to feel good about their water, so we strive to find ways to not only create more sustainable business practices, but to find solutions to the global water crisis. As a certified B-corporation, impact is a critical part of Soma’s DNA. We infuse it into everything we do, from our product design and supply chain to our company culture and partnerships.”

Major respect for this – if you support them and what they stand for, get yourself a pitcher/glass/filter! Currently, they are offering free shipping with the submission of your email – don’t miss out!

Each week, I dedicate a post to those on Instagram who really inspire me; each of you make an impact in your own way. Thank you for caring for our planet, fellow humans, and the well-being of all. If you know of a brand who would like to be featured, let me know in the comments or on social media. As always, thanks for reading and look out for a new post tomorrow!
